Winners and honorable mentions will receive big baskets of treats and prizes from our local business partners, Hot Chocolates and the Laughing Oyster Bookshop.

THE 5TH ANNUAL SPOOKY SCRIBBLES CONTEST!!!!!!
CONTEST DETAILS
The contest is open to children and youth age 7-17 in one of the following age categories:
7-10 years of age
11-13 years of age and
14-17 years of age
Entries must provide a Halloween themed story or poem of no longer than 800 words to enter. Limit of one story per writer. Individual entries only; group or class submissions will not be accepted. Please note that winners from 2024 are ineligible to win prizes in this year’s edition.
The story or poem must be your own work: either an original piece, or a retelling (in your own words) of a creepy tale that you’ve heard.
PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to the most haunted writing we receive.
Judges will select one winner and one honourable mention in each age category. The winners’ writing will be published in the October 29th edition of the Comox Valley Record.
Additionally, One Judge’s Prize will be awarded.
Three honourable mentions in each age category will also be selected.
Age 7-10 – Winner and honorable mention receive gift basket from Hot Chocolates.
Age 11- 13 - Winner and honorable mention receive gift basket from Hot Chocolates.Age 14-17 - Winner and honourable mention receive 50.00 cash card.
Judges prize – 50.00 gift certificate from the Laughing Oyster Bookshop
Winners will be notified the morning of October 22, 2025
HOW TO ENTER
Entries can be submitted by either:
1) Completing an entry from and dropping off your writing in person at Library branches in Comox, Cumberland and Courtenay.
OR
2) Filling out the online entry form and attaching an electronic copy of your work at cvllc.ca/spooky-scribbles.
All entries must be received by Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 8:00PM.
Contest open only to Comox Valley residents.
