Literacy Outreach Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Comox Valley Community Adult Learning and Literacy Society (CALLS) is seeking a part time Literacy Outreach Coordinator to provide leadership in building, coordinating and enhancing literacy services, programs and networks within the Comox Valley. Under the direction of our Executive Director and in concert with our staff team and community partners, this position is responsible for literacy promotion, program delivery and needs assessments within our geographic region.
The ideal candidate for this position will acknowledge the prevention-based focus of literacy work and its role in promoting accessibility and inclusivity in our community. They will be comfortable working with and engaging in meaningful dialogue with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and age ranges.
This is a contract position at 24.00 per hour for an anticipated 10 hours per week until December 31, 2026. The start date is immediate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This program provides a series of activities throughout the year, in concert with community partners and agency staff. Hours of activities are flexible (include weekends and evenings) and determined based on discussions with the Executive Director.

· Community Book Bike (Spring, Summer, Autumn annually) https://www.cvllc.ca/community-bookbike
· Spooky Scribbles writing contest (August – October annually) https://www.cvllc.ca/spooky-scribbles
· Raise awareness of literacy needs among the population at large through other community-based literacy events.
Deliverables:
· Deliver community literacy activities as listed above.
· Hold a minimum of 3 meetings of community partners in the literacy field.
· Work to raise the profile of the importance of literacy in the community as a whole.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
· Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
· Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
· Proven ability to work independently to facilitate and manage projects.
· Awareness of outcome measurement frameworks and program development.
· Familiarity with educational programs and social services in the Comox Valley an asset.
· Experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds an asset.
· An inclusive and respectful approach to collaboration.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs, Facebook and other social media as well as online design platforms (Canva)
